Bust – When a faction experiences a bust, the wealth of the system it controls is temporarily reduced and the faction’s influence is temporarily diminished. Trade actions do not contribute to boom while a bust is active. Civil War – Civil wars occur when factions compete for control of major assets, such as starports. When a faction is involved in a civil war, the standard of living, development level and security level in the system it controls are temporarily reduced. Civil Unrest – Civil unrest is the result of illegal activity. When a faction is affected by civil unrest, the standard of living in the system it controls temporarily decreases, as does the system’s wealth. Famine – When a faction is affected by famine, the standard of living in the system it controls temporarily decreases.
Combat activity has no effect on influence while a famine is active. Completing food-related trade missions can help bring a famine to an end. Outbreak – When a faction is affected by an outbreak, the standard of living in the system it controls temporarily decreases. Combat activity has no effect on influence while an outbreak is active.
Completing medicine-supply missions can help bring an outbreak to an end. Election – Elections occur when two factions with a similar political structure resolve a conflict over ownership and influence within a system. War – Wars occur when a faction invades a star system controlled by another faction. For the duration of the war, the standard of living, wealth level and security level in the disputed systems are reduced. Combat activity between the two warring factions determines the outcome of the conflict. If neither faction succeeds in dominating the other, the war ends in a ceasefire. Expansion – Expansions occur when a faction successfully maintains a degree of influence over a happy population for a specified period of time.
Expansion is costly, so when a faction expands, the wealth and development level of the system it expands from are temporarily reduced. Retreat – Factions are considered to be in retreat if their level of influence within a system drops below a certain level. If the faction’s influence remains low for a total of five days, the faction must leave the system entirely.
If the faction manages to increase its level of influence, it remains in the system. Civil Liberty – The faction is enjoying a period of stability within this system, resulting in widespread happiness among the local population. Bounty hunting activity can help sustain the civil liberty period. Investment – The faction is enjoying a period of economic good fortune within this system, resulting in widespread happiness among the local population. Trade activity can help sustain the investment period. BGS ChangesHow has the background simulation changed for Chapter Four?. The background simulation (BGS) now provides more detailed information, useful both for players already involved in the BGS system and helping to introduce it to new players who are less familiar.
The Status Tab in the Systems Panel will now show you a list of factions in your current system and their economic and security status. You can select a faction to see a more thorough description of its current state. This information is also available in the Squadron UI, Galaxy Map, Mission Board, Passenger Lounge and more. Where before a faction could only be in one state across all systems where they have presence, factions can now be in multiple states across systems.
War, Civil War and Election states are now all 7 day conflicts to allow more time to engage in influential activities. A new Happiness statistic aggregates a faction’s various states and influence to determine if the faction is happy or not. Civil Liberty is a new state, acting as the Boom equivalent for Security. Conflict Changes.
Wars, Civil Wars and Elections will now freeze the influence of both factions involved. The conflict between the two factions will be resolved weekly, following a process of winning victories on a daily basis. To claim a victory, players need to complete relevant missions handed out by their faction and take part in the newly revamped Conflict Zones. You can find information on how your faction is doing during the war, and the assets it has on the line, in the status panel.
For example: a faction that has Civil Unrest, War and Bust occurring is not going to be the happiest, while a faction experiencing Civil Liberty and Boom will be much happier. To increase your faction’s happiness, you need to defeat negative states and push your faction towards positive ones. Large factions, with lots of influence across many happy systems will be more likely to gain the Expansion state. A faction in Expansion after a certain amount of time will attempt to expand from the happiest system that faction is present in. Therefore, you will be better able to coordinate your expansion efforts to ensure which system you want to expand from.

FDev tried to put the above mentioned happiness as a factor for expansion, however currently(6/17/19) expansion still uses the system that is above 75% to trigger the expansion and for the 20ly bubble. We're less than two weeks away from the launch of Elite: Dangerous, a space exploration, trading, and combat simulator that lets players travel around the Milky Way galaxy in pursuit of galactic glory.While there are several space exploration titles like No Man's Sky and to be excited for, Elite: Dangerous will actually be available this holiday season and is a great choice for those who are looking for an alternative to the current heavyweight of space MMOs, EVE Online. The game is set to come out on Dec.
16 and will retail for $50.Over the course of the past few days, I've had the pleasure to try out the Elite: Dangerous beta. Having never played a space MMO title before, there were several roadblocks I had to grapple with. After spending a good ten hours with the game, here are five tips I would recommend for newcomers to Elite: Dangerous. Get a JoystickIf you want to learn how to play Elite: Dangerous on a keyboard, you're going to have a bad time. At least, that's how I would characterize the grueling 20-odd minutes I tried lifting my spacecraft from a launching pad and repeatedly colliding with nearby enclosures. After what had to have been my fourth crash, I decided to switch to a joystick (specifically, ). Instantly, everything felt more intuitive.
When I press a button on my joystick, my virtual counterpart presses the same exact button on his.Although it did take me a good hour or so to learn the button bindings on the joystick and throttle, my gameplay experience was vastly improved. Not only are you able to more accurately pivot your spacecraft (yay for dedicated lateral and vertical thrust button), your ability to locate crucial functions like landing gear, shift drive, and auxiliary displays is much, much easier.Perhaps even more important than having easier controls is the level of immersion that a dedicated controller gives you. Jumping into hyper space feels way more satisfying when you're moving your throttle to maximum speed as opposed to pressing a key on your keyboard. The same holds true for landing your spacecraft, engaging in space battles, and even observing your surroundings during inter-planetary trips.Understandably, the biggest trepidation against getting a joystick is the cost, which in the case of the Saitek X52, exceeds the cost of the game itself. If you're not ready to make a greater-than-$100 investment toward a full-blown joystick and throttle combination, there are other, you may want to consider. Do the TutorialsThis seems like a no-brainer, and it is. But if you're as hard-headed as I was and want to immediately jump into 'Open Play' (the main game mode), well, good luck.I am somewhat ashamed to admit that it took me roughly over an hour to learn how to.park my spacecraft.
Had I not done the tutorials, I probably would have never learned how to correctly approach an orbital, request docking permission, and successfully land my craft at my designated landing pad. Learning how to park is one of the first things you'll have to do.There are currently ten tutorials in the Gamma version of Elite: Dangerous, and they range from basic navigation and traveling to advanced combat. Unfortunately, the tutorials don't cover everything, so for more information you may have to watch a few YouTube videos and visit dedicated forums.Nevertheless, considering how technically complex Elite: Dangerous is, I wouldn't be surprised to see additional tutorials down the line. The Bulletin Board is your friendOnce you're past the tutorials and have stepped into Elite: Dangerous world, you may be overwhelmed by the sheer size of the universe around you.
Of course, to get a feel for just how epic the game is, I would recommend randomly zipping around different systems and admiring the gorgeous landspacescape around you. You can access the bulletin board through orbitals such as this one.After you've hyperjumped to your heart's content, you're going to want to start thinking about how to make money (turns out capitalism is still alive and well in the year 3300). While your best bet to getting started is becoming a trader (and taking advantage of the good old supply vs. Demand paradigm), you should also consider taking on various missions you'll find at every port's bulletin board.In addition to guaranteeing a steady supply of credits, taking on quests from the bulletin board offers a structured approach to exploring the galaxy. You'll quickly learn how to use your cargo scoop, the limitations of your cargo capacity, and other travel-related considerations that are likely going to be useful through your entire Elite: Dangerous career. Join a FactionAs appealing as being an independent contractor may be, the fact of the matter is that outer space is a dangerous, dangerous place. Being a part of a faction allows you to engage in dogfights with opposing factions, which is also a great way to make money as you'll earn a certain amount per kill.
Of course, you may want to upgrade your starter ship before getting into combat, else you're more likely than not to get disintegrated in moments. In order to join a faction, you'll have to enter a conflict zone (the star system of Eranin has quite a few). That's a big ship.
You'll start off in a (much) smaller one.While you're probably going to be safer by joining the side with the most ships on it, joining the weaker side means you'll have a more target-rich environment. There are two types of conflict zones, 'High Intensity' and 'Low Intensity' zones, which, as their names suggest, vary in the number of active combatants.Factions introduce the element of warfare into Elite: Dangerous, letting you release your inner space commander. Meeting fellow faction members, fighting in a group, and getting cash for kills provides some of the more adrenaline-driven moments in the game, and makes the title's name live up to its expectations. Be PatientAs with most MMOs, you're going likely going to get frustrated with the learning curve of Elite: Dangerous. While not as demanding as, say StarCraft II, there are many elements in Elite: Dangerous that will take you a considerable amount of time to master.
After all, Rome wasn't built in a day, and you're likely going to be spending dozens, if not hundreds of hours to accumulate enough credits to obtain the ship of your dreams.

Player A supports local faction X. Player B supports local faction Y. As influences change, a civil war in the system might break out (or a faction might expand to another adjacent system). When a war state happens, PVP in conflict zones is most definitely pvp against other human faction members.The faction system is actually pretty in-depth; I'm continually surprised by things it throws at me. My local station turning red and saying to me 'You are not welcome here, enemy!' Even though I was 100% legal and had no bounties on me, was a real eye opener for me. The reason for it was, the faction that owned the station was a mafia-type faction and I had been mostly killing all their pirate buddies in the local RES.
